Strive
STRIVE is a nonprofit employment
training and placement organization. For the past twenty years we assisted
individuals achieve economic independence through employment. Since its
inception, STRIVE has placed over 24,000 individuals in jobs and has
consistently met its three main operating goals:
●
Train clients in four weeks
●
Achieve a two-year job retention rate of 75% or better
● Do
this at no cost to our participants or employers
STRIVE’s intensive four week
training program emphasizes individual ownership of the skills and attitudes
needed to obtain and retain employment. Clients learn to follow instruction,
accept criticism, undertake group efforts, effectively interview, dress and
speak appropriately for the workplace, develop basic computer skills,
conduct successful job searches with the guidance of our job developers, and
take advantage of our career advancement program once successfully employed.
STRIVE training is not conducted in a traditional, academic manner; rather,
it uses role-playing, interaction, and tasks that simulate the demands of
the workplace.
STRIVE’s job development staff actively seek employment opportunities for
clients that offer benefits, skill development, and room for advancement or
that provide the participant with the beginning of a work history. Whether
through field research, job banks (i.e. already established and successful
relationships with large corporate employers), or networking with our 400+
employers, STRIVE makes sure it offers as many available outlets as it can
at every juncture.
STRIVE stays in contact with its graduates for two years following initial
employment and tailors its follow-up to the needs of each person. Follow-up
services include client outreach, daily, weekly and monthly phone contact
(depending on the follow-up stage), individual counseling sessions, evening
and weekend activities, alumni forums, career development seminars, crisis
intervention, employer contact, upgrade and replacement services, referral
services and occasional home visits. Even after the two-year follow-up
period, STRIVE offers lifetime services for all those who graduate the
4-week program.
